Developmental Editing
For
academic writing and other nonfiction, we use a combination of questions, close
reading, research, conversations, and suggestions to help a writer develop a broad
topic into a more narrowly focused thesis and outline. We then support the
writer as he or she researches, writes, and revises to complete a satisfactory
manuscript. For fiction, we first evaluate a writer’s draft, and then we
suggest improvements in story line, character development, structure,
description, dialogue, and pacing. Then we support the writer through the
number of drafts it takes to complete a publishable manuscript.
